Lined Leaves
Archival ink and watercolour on paper, 2025 — 16.5 × 11.7 in | 41.9 × 29.7 cm
Lined Leaves grew directly from Zebra Vase — the leaves that filled that vase, freed from it. I wanted to see what those same leaf forms might do on their own, given the whole page and no container to return to. The answer, it turns out, is simply grow.
This is a quiet work. Patient, botanical, each leaf individually rendered in fine hatching — a meditative process that asks nothing of the viewer except a moment of stillness. The stems rise from the bottom of the frame and spread upward naturally, the way plants actually do, without being arranged or composed into anything more than what they are.
It was one of the first works I made when drawing found me again. I have a particular affection for it because of that — and because simplicity, done with attention, is never as simple as it looks.
This artwork is shown in a room to give a sense of scale — the room setting is a visualisation, not a photograph. The drawing itself is exactly as pictured in the detail shots.

Size | Dimensions | Approx. Equivalent
A5 | 14.8 × 21 cm | Postcard / small artwork
A4 | 21 × 29.7 cm | Standard document / small statement piece
A3 | 29.7 × 42 cm | Statement piece for desk, shelf, or small wall
A2 | 42 × 59.4 cm | Bedroom or study feature wall
A1 | 59.4 × 84.1 cm | Living room or hallway statement piece
A0 | 84.1 × 118.9 cm | Full wall installation — commanding presence
Framing note: Standard frame sizes align with these dimensions. We recommend a white or natural linen mount in a frame 10–15cm larger than the print — this gives the work room to breathe and is how gallery pieces are typically displayed.
Not sure which size? A3 works well on a desk or shelf. A2 is the most popular for bedroom walls. A1 and A0 are statement pieces for living rooms, hallways, or spaces where the work needs presence from across the room.
