Are you looking to start a blog in 2024?
Has something been niggling at you, keeping you up at night, thinking about what it would be like to create a blog of your very own?
Have you wanted to start blogging but curious to know what the most popular blog niches are that consistently make money over time?
Hobby bloggers aside, there is nothing in the slightest wrong with wanting to follow your passion but if you're going to make it as a professional digital creator or blogger and create content online, understanding the blog niches that make money is essential to your success.
According to ProBlogger, around two-thirds of bloggers earn less than $100 monthly from their blogs. This means they make less than $3.50 a day.
If your goal is to become a full-time blogger, it doesn't matter where in the world you're from, that isn't a sustainable income.
On the opposing side of this equation, about one in 10 bloggers earn $1,000 – $9,999 a month, and one in 25 makes more than $10,000 a month. This is where we aim to get to.
There isn't any secret sauce here but rather stories of people who have found profitable blog niches and monetized them effectively.
Truth is, starting a blog is still a great way to earn money online, even as a beginner.
So starting at the beginning, we need to look at the reality of starting a blog and figure out what type niche to start. This will give you the best chance of success.
Now you have likely spent hours, if not days and weeks, sifting through what feels like reams of information, trying to figure out what types of blogs can legitimately make you money.
The good news is that you need not look any further because we're going to break everything down here.
We're going to not only look at the most profitable blogging niches but also look at a successful blog within each niche.
With that in mind, in this article, we're going to:

Top 10 Blogging Niches That Make The Most Money
Below we're going to go through the 10 blogging niches that make the most money consistently over time. And the point I should fill in here is why these 10 blogging niches make money. That's because each of these niche types can be successfully monetized.
The thing is, you need to monetize your blog somehow to make money.
Let's be honest, you want to start a blog to pursue something you love doing BUT also make money, right? If the answer is no, then this post will help you with a side hobby, but for the rest of you, my sincerest hope is that this list will help you to create your own money-making blogging strategy.
1. Digital Marketing Blogs That Make Money
A digital marketing blog is one of the best blog types that can make you some serious money, and the category my blog fits into on this list is a marketing blog. Because even though I touch on topics like remote work and freelancing, my main focus is teaching my readers how to start their own blogs and run a successful online business.
A digital marketing blog covers areas related to various types of marketing. You can cover blogging, content marketing, email marketing, eCommerce, and SEO. These topics help teach your readers how to monetize these learned online marketing skills to start their own online businesses.
WPBeginner and Neil Patel are a great examples of marketing blogs.
WPBeginner is one of the most popular blogs out there and a great WordPress resource site for Beginners. Being WordPress-focused, they provide information, tools, and resources on how to build and monetize your WordPress site for blogging and eCommerce.
A digital marketing blog is a valuable way to make money online and a great way to become a recognized source within the space.
Many digital marketing strategies are being thrown about these days, so if this is a thing you think you can sink your teeth into, I suggest niching down at first. When starting out, this is the best way to gain domain authority and get more traffic to your site.
If you look at WPBeginner, for example, you will see that they narrowed their niche down to WordPress. Consequently, they are now one of the - if not the most popular resources for anyone looking for anything WordPress.
Digital marketing blog niche ideas:
Soloprenuership
Small business
eCommerce news and trends
Specific marketing areas (SEO, email marketing, website analytics, copywriting)
2. Travel Blogs That Make Money
When most people think about traveling, they envision the dazzling beaches of Figi, Patagonia's dramatic mountain peaks, or Santorini's whitewashed, cubiform houses. But what about the logistics of traveling, like planning and budgeting? Wouldn't it be nice if someone could do that all for you?
The great news is that there are several opportunities with a travel blog! I'm a sucker for travel blogs and have learned much through them. See travel blogs become an invaluable resource because they help you plan a trip to pretty much anywhere. Travel blogs can teach you how to plan a trip, pack, what destinations to visit and why, and even budget. They're great.
Matt Kepnes, travel blogger and the founder of Nomadic Matt, helps his readers travel the world for less.
So how can you, for example, make money with a travel blog?
The most popular and straightforward way to monetize a travel blog is through affiliate links. Nomadic Matt, for example, uses affiliate links to promote partner links, including travel reward credit cards, flight sites, and hotel sites.
You could also sell your own ebooks or products, like Matt. Along with his destination-specific guidebooks, he helps his readers work as they travel, and his courses help bloggers and travelers create their own reader-worthy content.
And you can be something other than a globetrotter to start a travel blog. One of my favorite blogs is Lauren Melnick from the Wanderlust Movement, where she ventures locally in South Africa. With the pandemic, we were all confined to in-border travel. And this has become more popular, both by choice and necessity, with more people exploring within their own countries.
With this idea in mind, here are a couple of travel blog niche ideas:
In-border traveling
Road trips
Glamping
Budget travel
Remote work and travel
3. Finance Blogs That Make Money
Do you work well with money? Does the sound of a budget or savings plan make you come out with a wide grin? Then a finance blog is an excellent match for you.
Generally, a finance blog is there to give your readers usable advice. Whether that's for first-time job seekers, millennials or parents, everyone can learn more about their finances.
I follow a finance blog breaking records by the day called Her First 100K.
Founder of Her First 100K, Tori Dunlap, is quoted by The Guardian as "...the TikTok feminist saving people from debt." She covers money tips and career and financial advice for millennial women.
As I mentioned, finance is one topic that can appeal to so many different kinds of people at various stages of their lives, so there are several topics you can cover. You'll never get stuck on new blog post ideas in the long run.
Plus, there are so many different finance blog niches ideas:
Passive income
Personal finance
Early-retirement
Debt management
Investing
Side-hustles
And why are finance blogs one of the best types to make money consistently? First, they're helpful to everyone. And second, the topics which you can cover are endless.
4. Health and Fitness Blogs That Make Money
Is living a healthy lifestyle just a part of your way of life? Then a health and fitness blog is the right fit (see what I did there) for you.
Have you been curious to find out whether health and fitness blogs are profitable?
The truth is as most people become more and more conscious about their health and fitness, these niche blogs are what can be termed as a great green avenue to go down. The reality is that everyone on some level can relate, especially with the growing awareness around the benefits of looking after both your mind and body grow. So whether it's exercise, nutrition, or mental health, there's something for everyone in and around this blog topic.
Tina Haupert, the author of the Everything Macro Cookbook and Carrots' N' Cake blog, is all about eating your carrots but savoring your cupcakes. Through her blog, Tina helps people find balance in their lives. She dishes out much-needed advice about nutrition, fitness, and "best practices" to help her readers achieve that balance. There are many ways to monetize a health and fitness blog, and Carrots' N' Cake does this mainly through sponsored posts, group and one-on-one coaching, and fitness and nutrition programs.
You can also make your health and fitness blog profitable by providing online courses, linking through affiliate links, and selling your own products.
The important thing here to remember is that someone's well-being and health impact their daily lives, so make sure to build trust, and this is easy when you have their best interests at heart, especially concerning someone's health.
A great add-on is providing valuable educational content, like weekly or bi-weekly newsletters, videos, and even podcasts, to connect with your audience.
A few health and fitness blog niche ideas:
Mental wellness
Mindfulness
Technology and fitness gadgets
Nutrition and exercise focused on people 30+
Health and fitness training (Bodyweight, yoga, running, HIIT, etc.)

5. Food Blogs That Make Money
Are you a born foodie? Does the mere mention of a spice you've never heard of get you excited? Then a food blog might be on the menu.
Food blogs are much like a map. You can guide your readers through many avenues to find that next tasty dish. Perk, you get to take photos of your food with abandon.
A Sassy Spoon. A Sassy Spoon is a food blog hard not to fall in love with.
First, Jamie Silver, the food photographer and recipe developer behind A Sassy Spoon, takes THE most delicious pictures. Secondly, she organizes her blog not only by course but by ingredient and type, making things super easy and fun. Also, did I mention that she focuses on comfort food?!
So let's talk cash-Dolla. Because you're wondering how much money a food blog can actually make?
And it looks promising. Jamie made over 100k from her A Sassy Spoon blog in 2019. Yes, folks. A cool 100k. And this was all made through ads, affiliate marketing, partnerships, and business mentorship for food bloggers. We'll talk more about how to monetize your blog a little later in the post.

Budget-conscious recipes
Recipes for busy moms
Country-specific foods
Gluten-free recipes
Healthy eating
Restaurant reviews
6. Lifestyle Blogs That Make Money
The types of blogs we've covered that make money so far have been about one specific topic. A lifestyle blog is a little different.
Lifestyle bloggers write about all kinds of topics, like personal finance, food and drink, and travel all bundled into one site.
A lifestyle blog is very similar to a magazine in that it attracts readers looking for just that. They're looking for stories, product recommendations, and advice and a variety of topics.
An example of lifestyle blogs that makes money are the OutandBeyond blog by Aisha Preece and Cup of Jo, founded by Joanna Goddard.
Aisha Preece of OutandBeyond blogs about making money, saving money, and exploring different location-independent lifestyles.
Joanna Goddard's Cup of Jo is a New York-based daily women's lifestyle site that covers style, design, culture, food, travel, relationships, and parenting.
Cup of Jo makes money from affiliate links, sponsored posts, and display advertising, as well as through commissions earned on selling products they link to.
A lifestyle blog is a great start if you have a whole bunch of blogging ideas swirling around your head. The good news is once you start blogging, you'll gain clarity into what you actually enjoy writing about and who your ideal reader is.
Here are a few lifestyle blog niche ideas:
Self-improvement
Dating and relationships
Style
Fashion
Design
Beauty
Travel
You don't have to limit yourself to these niche topics. The great thing about a lifestyle blog is that you can actually make it fit to what you want, so write about anything you want!
The one caveat is to remember to always write with your readers in mind. So make sure to make your blog relatable.
7. Pet Blogs That Make Money
If you have pets, you're most likely obsessed with them. I love to play with mine and cuddle with them, so it wouldn't be a far stretch to write about them!
A pet blog is excellent for anyone looking for pet training tips, DIY pet treats, and things to do.
A pet blog is perfect for you if you have a fur family or know a lot about a specific animal or breed.
Dogalize is a pet blog dedicated to our four-legged friends. They have articles on anything from what to do before leaving your dog alone at home to understanding your cat's ear language, dog walking tips, specific pet-safe foods, and more.
So can a pet blog be profitable?
The short answer is it can! The best strategy to monetize a pet blog is through affiliate links. Linking to your favorite pet care products, toys, and training courses are all great avenues.
Go on and think of a pet blog niche and get going. There are so many options, like focusing on pure breeds, like, Border Collies, or if you own a Mutt like me, you can create a blog around this magical mix of all breeds.
If you're not quite sure, here are a few more pet blog niche ideas:
Pet adoption
Dog training
Cat food/ cat treat blog
Dog photography
Reptiles
Pet product reviews
8. DIY Blogs That Make Money
When you see something online or in-store, do you automatically think about how you could make things yourself? Do you love tinkering or making things (any things) in your spare time? Then a DIY blog may be made for you!
If you didn't already know, DIY stands for "Do it yourself." So a DIY blog is one in which you show your readers how to make things. This can range from crafts, clothing, furniture, home decor, facial products… The list is long.
Blog founder, Erica Domesek, defines P.S. - I Made This… as the ultimate destination for customization and personalization, where people worldwide can cultivate their inner creativity and embrace the ever-growing do-it-yourself (DIY) way of life.
Many DIY blogs use social media to reach their readers, and platforms like Pinterest and Instagram are great for showcasing products. Another great avenue and a rather deep rabbit hole I've followed down, and one which is great to reach new eyes, is the YouTube DIY video. Use this platform to create how-to videos and build a massive following like one of my favorites, Modern Builds.
Here are a few DIY blog niche ideas:
DIY for kids
Furniture restoration
Upcycling
Candle making
DIY home decor
9. Fashion Blogs That Make Money
Has starting your own clothing line always been on your mind? Why not take all of that pent-up inspiration and create a fashion blog?
A fashion blog is one of the greatest ways to express your unique style and share that through photos, clothing, accessories, makeup, and more.
But how do fashion blogs make money?
There are several ways to monetize a fashion blog. You can promote or sell products, add affiliate links, do collaborations with brands, and/or become an influencer on Instagram or TikTok.
One of the most popular fashion blogs is We Wore What. Danielle Bernstein, a sophomore in college, started We Wore What, photographing street style around her FIT, New York campus, which then evolved into a personal style site. Now, she has her own fashion line, Second Skin Overalls, and over 2.6 million Instagram followers. Marianne Hewitt of the blog Life With Me is defined as an original Super Influencer and a leading voice in social media who has built her brand into an estimated worth of about $4.6 million (2023).
With that said, I suggest using Instagram (and TikTok, because fashion moves, too) along with your fashion blog. Keep an eye out for a coming guide on using Instagram as a blogger to optimize your reach.
Check out these fashion blog niche ideas:
Eco-friendly fashion
DIY fashion
Occasion fashion (i.e., weddings, Netflix nights)
Fashion reviews
Minimal fashion
10. Mom Blogs That Make Money
Mom blogs, also known as parenting blogs, are all about raising yids and other family life-related topics.
And if you didn't know, mom blogs are hugely popular. But why?
The first and seemingly obvious reason is that collectively parents, regardless of where they are on their journey, hold many of the same questions about raising children. And mom or parenting blogs are a way to share stories and advice with like people.
The second (and a little less apparent reason) is that parents behind said mom or parenting blog came to realize that blogging allowed them to stay home with their kids and make money.
And if the popularity of said mom blogs doesn't seem that great, actual mom blogs are helping other moms create their own mom blogs!
We'll check out Mama Natural as our mom blog example.
Mama Natural, co-founded by Genevieve Howland and her husband Michael in 2010, helps its audience with tips on everything from conception to pregnancy to child-raising and embracing the #MomLife. They monetize their blog through a combination of ads and selling courses, as well as through a growing YouTube channel. Genevieve has also published The Mama Natural Week-by-Week Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth.
But remember, mom blogs don't stop at how to raise kids. There are so many different family dynamics worldwide, which means an equal measure of blog niches to explore parenting through.
Here are a few mom and parenting blog niche ideas:
Stay-at-home parenting
Traveling with children
Homeschooling children
LGBTQ+ parenting
Raising teenagers
Single working moms/dads
How Do Beginner Blogs Make Money?
Now that we've got to know the types of blogging niches that make money, you might wonder how they become popular and what blogging strategies you can implement to give yourself the best chance of success? The following 5 strategies are what the most popular blogs have in common with each other:
1. Valuable Content
Any blog that makes money understands how to bring value to its readers.
Valuable content has the following 4 features:
Create content that is focused on your readers.
You don't want to start out just writing niche content. Instead, think about writing content for your reader. Same-same but different. Before you think about publishing your first blog post content and just writing for writing's sake, you want to think about what your ideal readers wish to learn more about? What are their challenges? How will you help them find solutions to their problems or take action? Use tools like keyword research and see what blog post topics are currently ranking and being searched by your audience. A good idea is to check out Google to see which questions and blog posts come up when you search for topics within your niche.
The content is simple to read.
Think back to the most recent time you read an article with reams and reams of text.
It was likely a difficult or tedious read.
Blog posts are much more user-friendly and easy to read when they're written using uncomplicated vocabulary and shorter paragraphs. For your benefit and the benefit of your readers, steer clear of large paragraphs or complicated jargon because what will happen is your readers will opt out of your blog in search of another - it's that simple. Also, where you can, add images to break up your content.
The content is optimized for search.
Your blog posts should be packed with valuable and/or enter-tainting info, but nobody will see it if it doesn't rank on search engines. If you're keen to monetize your blog, you need it to rank, and optimizing your blog for search is pretty straightforward.
You'll want good-value keywords, a fast website, and optimized images to get started on the right foot. Always remember your ALT text. You can check out my blog post on the best SEO tools to skyrocket your blog to help you get going.
2. A Unique Selling Proposition
Optinmonster came out with a couple of growth stats, and they found that the number of bloggers in the USA alone was expected to grow to 31.7 million by the end of 2020. With all those blogs in the blogosphere, creating a profitable blog means being distinct from the crowd.
You can provide your readers with a unique selling proposition (USP). A USP is that thing that makes your blog stand out from everyone else. Why should someone read your blog versus another?
An excellent example of a USP is the travel blog I mentioned earlier by Matthew Kepnes, Nomadic Matt. His USP is to help his readers travel smarter, cheaper, and longer, and that's what his target audience wants to know.
Most travel blogs aren't honed in as deep within their travel niche, and what really sets Nomadic Matt apart is that he gets into his audience's pain points to get their attention.
So how do you find your own unique selling proposition (USP)?
Really niche your blog down to a specific topic. So, instead of starting a fitness blog for people of any age, create a daily HITT workout blog for 30-somethings short on time. This topic is super specific but reaches a large enough group of people.
3. Google Adsense
The easiest way to make a blog profitable is through Google Adsense. Signing up for Google Adsense means your blog will display ads like the one below:
So anytime someone clicks on the displayed ad, Google will charge the advertiser. And you'll get 68% of the profit. True story.
It's also super easy to sign up for Google Adsense! All you have to do is get accepted by Google, and following that, add the Adsense code to your blog.
And if you're wondering why every beginner blogger doesn't promote their ads with Google Adsense if it's so easy to manage, it depends on your audience.
If your blog has a bunch of ads popping up all over the place, you might scare off new readers. But it would help if you still used Google Adsense, but wait until you have a consistent blog traffic flow.
4. Affiliate Marketing
It would help if you thought about the most recent time you read a blog post about a product you were researching. You may have been looking at a pair of running shoes for yourself or a friend, and you may have clicked on the product link and bought it. This is called affiliate marketing.
Most blogs, irrespective of the type that make money use this marketing strategy. But how does affiliate marketing actually work?
When you become an affiliate partner with a network or online store, you will promote particular products or services through links in your blog posts. If a reader clicks on that product link or service and buys the product, you will earn a commission from that sale.
What's great about affiliate marketing, and what I love about it, is that you can use affiliate marketing with any blog type. And if you've decided on one of the blog topics we've gone over here, it's guaranteed that you'll have a whole stack of affiliate opportunities, products, and services to choose from.
5. Online Store
Do you have any products or services you're keen to sell? If so, you can always start an online store!
One of the best parts about running an online store is that all sales go straight to your bank account. So whether you want to create your own products or sell someone else's, you have the freedom to do either, all at a fraction of the costs involved in brick and mortar.
You can get sales by using an organic marketing strategy like starting an email list or using a social media platform like Instagram or Facebook to promote your products to your readers. If you're keen to check this out, I love the story of Davie Fogerty, owner of the popular Oodie.
Oh, and it's super easy to build an online store with Shopify or Webflow! I've got a guide coming up soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that, will you?
And last but not least...
YMYL and E-A-T: The Importance of Quality Content when Choosing Your Niche
When building a successful website, choosing the right niche is really important. But quality is especially critical for niches that fall under the category "your money or your life" (YMYL), like finance and health-related content. Google has special rules for ranking websites that fall into these categories. Google takes these topics very seriously because if the information is wrong or misleading, it could cause serious harm to people.
So, what does this mean for you? It means that if you want to create a website in a YMYL niche, you need to make especially sure that you have the proper background knowledge. This means you should either have relevant qualifications or work with someone who does.
Google looks at three things when deciding how trustworthy a website is in a YMYL niche: Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-A-T).
Expertise means you need to be seen as an expert in your field. You should have credentials, qualifications, or adequate experiences that you can show on your website.
Authoritativeness means that people in your industry should know you and trust you. You should be seen as an authority in your field.
Finally, Trustworthiness is all about being reliable and accurate. You need to make sure that people can trust you and your website to provide accurate information.
So if you want to write about topics related to finance, health, or other important topics, you need to be careful. Make sure that you have the right background knowledge and that you're seen as an expert in your field. Build up your authority and make sure that people trust you and your website to provide accurate information. By doing this, you can create a successful website that provides valuable information and keeps your readers safe.
And that's it, folks!
Wrapping Up
Now you know the 10 types of blogs that consistently make money and how to get going. Try these blog strategies out and see which works for you. Please remember, though, there is no silver bullet. Creating a profitable blog takes time. But with quality content, a good dose of consistent effort and determination, you'll see rewards soon enough. So good luck!
